RT Blog

Name:
Location: Indiana, United States

I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

IOM Says Society Must Fight Obesity--Where is RT?

A recent post on MedPage Today read: IOM: Society Must Rally to Fight Obesity. The story stated:
"A society-wide approach is needed to solve the complex and "catastrophic" problem of obesity in the U.S., according to a report from the Institute of Medicine (IOM).".
Why hasn't RT seemed to taken on the cause of fighting obesity? When I began my career in RT physical fitness was a regular feature of RT programs. But RTs today don't seem to be providing physical fitness programs that would help; fight obesity. I wonder why?

Blogger.com has Changed Its System -- Frustrating!

I've enjoyed doing the RT Blog since April of 2006 but the new format that has been imposed by blogger.com is driving me crazy. I must confess that for the first time I'm thinking about giving up the RT Blog. I'll see how it goes but right now I'm frustrated with the new way to post.
