I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Syllabus Clearinghouse for RT?

Not too long ago I read an article in Counselor Today Online titled “A stockpile of counselor education knowledge” by Jenny Christenson. The article talked about a new Counselor Syllabus Clearinghouse to collect syllabi from counseling faculty from across the nation. The Clearinghouse offers an online library to share information on teaching counseling courses.

I was reminded of an RT Blog post of mine on May 6, 2007, in which I had suggested RT profs share syllabi. I suggested that such sharing might not only help to revise courses but might lead to greater standardization of curricula.

I guess I wasn’t very persuasive or not too many read the post because, as far as I know, we really do not have a Recreational Therapy Syllabus Clearinghouse. Don’t you think it is time to establish one?
