I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Obesity and Arthritis

Another obesity article has been published -- this one points out that among adults who have arthritis the prevalence of obesity increased significantly between 2003 and 2009.

There have been so many articles on obesity as a problem for older people and people with disabilities that it seems to me that RT as a profession needs to take action to address the problem of obesity. What say you?

The article I read was from MedPage Today on April 28th. The primary source of the article was Mobidity and Mortality Weekly Report , Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "Pprvalence of obesity among adults with arthritis-- United States, 2003-2009," 2011, Vol. 60, pp. 509-513.
