I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

RT Concerns

I recently saw a Facebook post inquiring which universities offered Ph.D. degrees in rec therapy. It reminded me once more of the small number of Ph.D. producing schools (five!) and the shortage of RT faculty. Another concern mentioned on a Facebook post was the need for RT to support the federal legislation to make sure RT gets to be counted under the so called 3-hour rule. I sure hope RTs write their reps to request they become co-sponsors of the bill.
