I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

RTs Need to Support the Passage of H.R. 1906

I posted the following on Facebook and ATRAnet: I haven’t noticed much activity concerning H.R. 1906 “Access to Inpatient Rehabilitation Act of 2015.” The bill will amend the Social Security Act by including recreational therapy among modalities that make up an intensive rehab therapy program and can be explicitly counted toward the so called “three hour rule” in inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and units. If you are an RT you need to contact your congressional representative to ask them to support the bill. See the ATRA website for further information. If you are not an RT, please consider advising your representative that they should support the bill. I sure hope RTs get politically active and fight to pass this bill!
