Name:
Location: Indiana, United States

I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

New York State Working Hard on Licensure

RTs in New York seem to be well organized in their efforts to get licensure. From Robin Wexler, New York RT:

As many of you know, licensure for Recreation Therapy has been granted in four states: Utah, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Oklahoma. Other states are presently exploring the viability of licensure in their respective states. Professions such as social work and the creative arts therapies have been granted licensure in recent years. The legal regulation of Recreation Therapy protects the consumer as well as the future of our profession. Keeping these reasons in mind, a committee has been formed to examine licensure in New York State. Members of the committee are Lynn Anderson, Eileen Andreassie, Ray Archer, Vincent Bonadies, Linda Dianto, Mimi Fierle, Kristin Impicciatore, Dorothy McNamara, Anthony Martino, Mary Beth Pozzuto, Rose Rothe, Loretta Sinnott, Isabel Tiffen, Daryl Willenbrink, Robin Wexler, Felicia T. Zeigler. For more info including links and sample letters, go to the License Recreation Therapy website https://sites.google.com/site/licensurenews/Home
