I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Faculty Position at St. Francis

From Syd Sklar: The University of St. Francis has an opening for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management (pending administrative approval). We have a growing concentration in therapeutic recreation and welcome candidates with a TR/RT background. St. Francis is located in Joliet, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The RSTM department recently moved into a new facility in downtown Joliet (a $3 million dollar building renovation) built to our specifications. St. Francis offers small class sizes and is a welcoming environment. With the many CTRSs working in the Chicago area, we have access to multiple field experience/internship opportunities. The area offers affordable housing, strong public education systems, rich cultural diversity, world-class parks, thriving special recreation agencies, major league sports, cultural arts, museums, festivals, shopping, restaurants, and two major airports. I will be attending the ATRA conference Saturday through Monday and will be glad to talk with anyone interested in learning more about the position. Sydney L. Sklar, Ph.D., CTRS Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management Director, USF Challenge Center University of St. Francis, 500 Wilcox St., Joliet, IL 60435 Voice (815) 740-3691; Fax (815) 740-4285
