I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

New York Licensure Bill has Sponsors

Some good news from Robin Wexler about a licensure bill for New York state. She reports:

Some real good news. Assemblymember Zebowski has officially sponsored the New York State Therapeutic Recreation Licensure Bill. The bill number is A 05303. It was referred to the Higher Education Committee on 2-22-13. We presently have sponsorship in both the Senate and Assembly. The bill is also sponsored by Senator Lanza. The bill number for the Seante is S2141. Now is the time (for residents of New York) to contact your legislator. Ask both your assemblymember and senator to CO-SPONSOR THE BILL.

I'm really glad to hear about this news!

I wish we had License to practice Rec. Therapy in West Virginia.

I wanted a professional license, so I went back and obtained a M.Ed. in Counseling and am working towards being a LPC. However, my heart will always be in Rec. Therapy.
