I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Recreation Therapists of Indiana Day at Statehouse

From Julie Foster and Heather Sedletzeck, RTI Public Policy Co-Chairs

Greetings RTI Members!
I hope this finds you well and that you are all having a great start to the new year.
The 2012 legislative session in Indiana began this week. This means our annual trip to the statehouse is fast approaching. RTI will be at the IN Statehouse on January 20 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. After our meetings, we will all then go to a local downtown restaurant (details to follow) and review our meetings, develop plan of action, and also have a RTI board meeting. We would like to encourage as many to attend as possible. We will not be pushing for licensure this year, but we want to make our profession known with our legilators, so that when we do have drafted legislation, our legilators will know what they are voting for.
If you have never attended before, it is a great experience. We never send anyone to meet with their legislators alone and you will have the RTI 2012 Legislative Agenda to take with you.
If you are intersted in going, please let Julie know. You then need to contact your legilators in bothe the Indiana House and Senate. If you are not sure who they are or how to contact them. please visit the website www.in.gov. There is a link to find this information. If you need assistance, Heather or I would be more than happy to help you.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
