I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Recreational Therapy - Assistant/Associate Professor at FIU

From Lexi McKenney: The Department of Leadership and Professional Studies, College of Education at FIU invites applications for a nine-month, Assistant/Associate Professor full time, tenure track position in Recreation Therapy beginning August, 2015. Qualifications: Doctoral degree in recreational therapy/therapeutic recreation or related discipline. Applicants are also required to be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and evidence of an emerging (Assistant) or established (Associate) line of externally funded research. Demonstrated competence in scholarship that results in refereed publications, professional presentations, and external grant awards. Evidence of quality online and on campus teaching in recreational therapy/therapeutic recreation and recreation and sport management core classes and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students to successful degree completion. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in recreational therapy; recruit, advise and mentor graduate students; assist in the development and maintenance of online initiatives; develop and maintain a focused research agenda; engage in scholarly activity in recreational therapy; secure external funding; work collaboratively with students, faculty, and practitioners; actively engage in community service at the professional, RT program, department, college, local, state, national, and international levels; and support RT program and college accreditation initiatives. The Recreational Therapy program lies within the Recreation and Sport Management degree program. The Recreational Therapy program is offered on campus at both the BS and MS degree levels and online at the BS degree level. The program is located in the Department of Leadership and Professional Studies. We are looking for a dynamic individual with the vision to help the recreational therapy program further advance its online and on-campus curricula, engage in scholarship, community engagement, and participate actively in student recruitment and retention.
