I became a Professor Emeritus after serving 29 years as a recreational therapy faculty member at Indiana University. I'm a long-time Hoosier, having grown up in Hanover, Indiana. My RT practitioner work was in psych/mental health. After completing my Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, my first faculty position was at the University of North Texas. RT has been a wonderful profession for me as I have had the opportunity to serve as an author and national leader.

Faculty Position at Ole Miss

Job Description

Teach undergraduate core courses and graduate courses in area of expertise on the main University of Mississippi campus, publish research in area of specialization, pursue external funding, develop external resources to provide on-going support for research activities, contribute to interdisciplinary research collaboration, advise undergraduate and graduate majors, and serve on departmental and university committees.

Job Responsibilities

Teach within the NRPA/COAPRT accredited undergraduate program in area of expertise on the University of Mississippi main campus. Teach graduate courses in area of expertise, publish research in area of specialization, pursue external funding, develop external resources to provide on-going support for research activities, contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations, advise undergraduate and graduate majors, and serve on departmental and university committees. Areas of expertise include but are not limited to the following: experience teaching on-line and/or distance learning courses, recreation administration, and therapeutic recreation/recreational therapy.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants should possess (1) an earned doctorate with at least one graduate degree in recreation/leisure studies or related field by the time of employment, (2) teaching ability in higher education, (3) a strong commitment to scholarship and research, (4) success at obtaining external funding to support scholarly activities, (5) a commitment to teaching distance learning and on-line education courses, and (6) the ability to build relationships with colleagues, practitioners and students.
